A face-to-face (In London) or an online initial consultation can be organised with Dr Russo prior to booking any endoscopic procedures, at the patient's request. During that appointment you can discuss any active symptoms, ask questions about your procedure and your care, practical aspects around bowel preparation etc. This is charged separately in accordance to the doctors standard private fees.
Over the last year, Dr Russo has transferred part of his practice to Mitera Hospital in Athens, Greece. Mitera is a world-class clinic in Athens. It boasts a newly refurbished 4-room endoscopy suite, with cutting edge equipment identical to what Dr Russo uses in London, and a team of highly trained endoscopy nursing team. Moreover, standard practice in Greece dictates that each patient receives deep sedation by a Consultant Anaesthetist, which makes for a seamless, comfortable procedure.

Diagnostic colonoscopy £900.

Removal of small and medium-sized polyps <2cm are also included in the package price. Polyps larger than 2cm normally require a multi-disciplinary team discussion prior to removal which is not available as part of the service. Mitera Hospital is located in Chalandri region, 25’ from Athens International Airport and 20’ from the Historic Centre (7-9€ by taxi). There a numerous short-lets and hotels in the vicinity. Please check out suggested accommodation options here.
Gastroscopy does not require any particular preparation. You just need to fast for 6 hours prior to the procedure. You could therefore plan to arrive the evening before your procedure.
Colonoscopy requires you to prepare your bowel the day before the test. Preparation typically starts at 3-4pm the day before your test. You should therefore plan a morning flight the day before, so that you have settled in your accommodation in good time to start the prep.
Whilst propofol sedation doesn’t typically have any after-effects or hangover, most anaesthetic societies advise against flying on the same day.
Your procedure will be in the morning so you could spend the rest of the day for some obligatory site-seeing
We will arrange for your bowel preparation to be sent to your home address while still in the UK.
Endoscopies in general are extremely safe and well- tolerated procedures. The likelihood of complications arising, which would require an overnight stay or further treatment are very small, typically much less than 1 in 500. If a complication does take place, you would be liable for the cost of any additional cost that may be required, until you have recovered fully and ready for your return travel.
In the unlikely event that a complication does take place, this will be managed on-site by teams of top-class physicians and surgeons who are all permanently on site. You will be required to cover any additional potential costs from your hospital stay, which will be kept to a minimum, until it’s clinically safe for you to be discharged.
